There’s only about 3 more days until we get sucked into the black hole. The LCH is going to be activated on Wednesday. Time to start looting!
If you’ve read my previous posts on this that you know what I’m on about.
Black Hole Earth?
More LHC
Apparently the Australian media has finally picked up on it too…

A while back I posted about the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva in which I wrote about how some people actually think that it will create a black hole that will consume the earth. Today I got this link to photos of the almost finished LHC from Fredrik over at The Shape. Really interesting photos. The whole contraption is seriously massive and an incredible feat of engineering. I can’t wait to see what kind of research results it will produce.
If you scroll down to the comments you can read up on the debate about the LHC turning us into black hole chowder… comments like this one by BlueBlogger (#472) make me laugh:
“I agree with the first comment…this thing will kill us all!
Who ARE these people? How can they guarantee anything with confidence after their life has been spent in a fraternity of scientific minds who have been bent on inventing ways to kill humans for so long, their mindset has only one final outcome.….… destruction! These guys are no different than the one’s in the military who go around saying those horrible two words…“what if”.
EVERY single person on this planet has a differing electrical potential, on a minute to minute basis, because NOTHING stands still…only a vacuum!
Therefore, EVERY living thing on this planet WILL be affected by the running of this monstrosity!”
I just love his explanantion to why we all will be affected. It really makes sense…

As everyone knows, the giant LHC at CERN in Switzerland that has taken 14 years to build is scheduled to be turned on in May 2008. But now, this botanist/grade-school teacher who minored in physics years ago, has filed a lawsuit (in Hawaii) to postpone the start of the LHC because “it could create a black hole that will eat the earth” or “create strangelet particles that would start a chain reaction where these particles transform the entire universe to a stranglet-soup”. Wow Mr. Botanist, I’m sure you’re right and I trust you more than the real physicists at CERN.
