Last night I had a conversation on MSN with Simple Bikes team rider Pim Van Den Bos. He told me that he had a crash with his bike and that he’ll be in for surgery in a couple of days. Check below for the conversation.
A while back I posted about my friend Patrik who had a gnarly crash and got a few fractures in his face. He’s now had surgery and is recovering very well. They had to put 9 metal plates in his skull to patch it all up and hold it all together.
Apparently what happened when he crashed was the he hooked his peg on an upright when attempting an icepick grind on a rail. He had pulled it once before and got it on film, but he wasn’t happy with the how it turned out, so he went for it again and hooked the peg on the very last upright. I’ve been told that he went straight to his face and had no speed forward at all. No hands to stop his fall either. He had scratches on the top of his hands!
Here’s the 3D image of his skull with all the plates marked out. Looks gnarly!
I got some bad news earlier today. I was checking up on the scene back home and I read that one of my very best friends, Patrik Swenson, had crashed and got multiple fractures to his face. It scared me pretty bad, so of course I had to get more info. I’m not sure what went down when he crashed, but apparently it was pretty damn scary.
Anyway, he’s got a broken nose and upper jaw, both cheekbones on each side of the nose are broken and of course a bunch of bruises and scratched up skin. Good news is that he’s already getting better and he’ll be just fine. Soon he’ll be out of the hospital and back in action.
My good friend Jems, also a Simple teamrider, just told me he injured his knee a few days ago. Knee injuries are always scary, but Jems says it’s hopefully not as bad as he initially thought. Fingers crossed for his quick recovery!
Jems is a local at the greatest trails I’ve ever been to. That was 2 years ago now and a lot of changes have been made to the trails by now and I would sure as hell wanna go back to ride them again. Until then, I guess this little archive video will have to be good enough.
